A compilation of photos and notes about the sculpture, not a book that is informative for more than a scholar looking for esoteric notes on the history of the sculpture compiled by a scholar and published under the name of Janson. The photos are at the end of the book and the plate notes at the beginning. The photos have no identifying information, not even title, only plate name and the reader has to search through the first half of the book to fine the title, date, etc. There is no narrative, only a compilation of notes. I had recently seen Donatello's work in Florence and was hoping to learn more about the artist and his work. This is not a book for the average art history lover, possibly good for another scholar looking to trace the history of individual pieces, their location, ownership, origin (Donatello, school-of, or a follower whose work looks like D's).
